SG072 The new signalling at Liverpool Street 1895.
NEW APRIL 2025. In 1895 the GER enlarged its London terminus, adding four more platforms Nos. 8-11.
The magazine 'The Engineer' reported on these developments, What you get here is the page on the new signalling at Liverpool Street from its edition for 2 August 1895.
It is only a single page (with a small second page containing just a few paragraphs of text that had spilled over elsewhere), but the magazine was of a large format and it contains plenty of information. The written account is supplemented by a plan of the new layout with its signalling, a diagram and photograph of the specially designed facing point detectors and locks employed, plus a photograph of the new West signal box.
For this we must thank Peter Churchman, a retired signal engineer who belongs to the Midland Railway Society not the GERS. He provided the scan of the item which is in his possession, and generously agreed that we might share it via the Files Emporium.
