Royal Station, Wolferton

A general view of the Royal Station at Wolferton on 2 April 1946 as seen from the signal box which was situated on the south side of the level crossing. The Station was rebuilt and extended in 1898 and although an earlier carstone and brick building was extended, it is the Tudor style structures, designed by W Ashbee that are seen here. In the following year the doubling of the line from King's Lynn was completed but it remained single from here to the terminus at Hunstanton.

Little had changed when this photograph was taken; the buildings, station gardens and approach roads were kept in an immaculate condition and the ornamental cast iron lamp posts, with twisted columns, carried a unique design of lamp case surmounted by a crown.
