RE051: The Liverpool Street to Shenfield Electrification, 1949.
NEW JANUARY 2021. This file comprises two accounts of the electrification from Liverpool Street to Shenfield in 1949.
The first sixteen pages are a series of four illustrated articles from the Railway Pictorial and Locomotive Review during 1950. The first is an introduction. The other three parts deal with coaching stock and Ilford carriage depot; signalling and control; and overhead equipment. Our thanks are due to Bill King for providing these scans.
The remaining seven pages complement this, taken from the Railway Gazette of 30 September 1949 which reported its opening. Again there is a general account with photographs. The article also gives details of the actual opening ceremony, and includes a full list of the engineers responsible for each different aspect of the work and the contractors they employed.
The file is word-searchable and has bookmarks. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
