RE058: Contract for the new overhead lines to Shenfield, LNER 1939.
NEW APRIL 2024. The LNER was planning to electrify the route from Liverpool Street to Shenfield plus Fenchurch Street to Bow Junction. Tenders had been invited, and the one for providing the overhead lines themselves had been awarded to British Insulated Cables Ltd. In 1939 a formal contract was drawn up between the two parties, and that is what we have here.
It comes in the form of a 62-page printed foolscap book. The contents list can be seen HERE. There are no illustrations. Schedule C lists some accompanying drawings that were to be supplied, but they are not present here. It should also be added the cover bore the words 'Prices omitted', which meant that this copy of the agreement had none of the financial details included - where a price was to be laid down, the entry for it was left blank.
The book has generously been donated by a member, and it is hoped it will eventually appear in the Society Collection at the Essex Record Office.
The file is word-searchable and has bookmarks. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
