RE043 Electrification from Shenfield to Chelmsford and Southend - a 1953 Report
NEW OCTOBER 2018. The line from Liverpool Street to Shenfield was electrified in 1949. In view of its success it was proposed to extend the wires to Chelmsford and to Southend Victoria. This file consists of a confidential report produced in 1953, considering all aspects of this in its 30 pages of typescript.
Topics dealt with include the area to be covered by this extension; existing passenger services, and desirable improvements that could be achieved; an outline of the proposals, with a look at rolling stock, its stabling and its maintenance; the power supply needed; signalling and telecommunications; necessary civil engineering works; financial estimates to justify the project; and the construction itself. At the back is a map showing the lines included in the scheme and their relationship with other lines.
The file has bookmarks to all the sections and is word-searchable. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
