SG049 Trowse signalling instructions 1906
NEW JULY 2015. This is the GER Signalling Instruction No. 178, dated 16 May 1906. Its full title is "Special Working between Trowse Lower Junction, Trowse Yard Box, and Trowse Swing Bridge Junction, and between Trowse Swing Bridge Junction and Norwich Thorpe Junction, and Wensum Junction Signal Boxes".
The Instruction relates to the signalling arrangements for Trowse Swing Bridge and its adjoining boxes. These were being amended at that time to take in account the introduction of Sykes Lock and Block. The full text of it is provided on six pages, suitable to be printed out A4 size.
The original was a huge single-sided printed sheet, now in a very worn and delicate condition. A photograph of it is shown in this file: you will need to zoom in greatly in order to read it. We provide it here both for its intrinsic interest and to give you an opportunity to check details of our transcript should you wish. Handwritten alterations marked on it would appear to be a draft for a planned revised edition of the instructions, due out in October 1916.
The final page in the file is the whole document set out anew in its original layout. You will need to zoom in a lot in order to read it. If you would like a printed copy on your wall, however, you should take this file to a printer or copy shop, and ask them to print that page out full size on to an A2 sheet of paper.
