SG074: Signalling for the new junction at Brundall, GER 1883.
NEW APRIL 2025. The original railway from Yarmouth to Norwich was the line via Reedham. In 1883 the GER increased the capacity of the route by opening a loop through Acle.
GER drawing number 16336 here depicts the track and signalling this necessitated for the new junction at Brundall.
Some writing in red ink on it indicates that a copy was sent to the Board of Trade on 19 April 1883, presumably so they could arrange to inspect the new works.
As a bonus we have added a Windwood photograph from our Collection. This was taken in 1911 and shows the junction viewed from the signal box. A futher extra page gives a local signalling 'bye-law' relaing to the box, taken from the GER Appendix to the Working Timetables for 1893 (our file TW030).
We must thank Peter Churchman, a retired signal engineer who belongs to the Midland Railway Society not the GERS. He provided the scan of the drawing which is in his possession, and generously agreed that we might share it via the Files Emporium.
