LM049 Diagrams of LNER Steam Cranes c.1940s
NEW AUGUST 2018. This file provides diagrams for five LNER steam cranes. They are 961001, a 5-ton crane for Lowestoft Harbour Works (marked as ex-Stratford); 961003, a Grafton 5-ton crane at Lowestoft Sleeper Depot; 961004, another Grafton 5-ton crane at Lowestoft Sleeper Depot; 961005, a Smith's 5-ton crane and bucket grab at Lowestoft Harbour Works; and 961010, a Grafton 10-ton travelling crane stationed at Wensum Depot, Norwich Thorpe, with its pair of match trucks.
These are diagrams, not full general-arrangement drawings. That means that they show a broad outline drawing of the side view of each crane, to scale and with important dimensions marked on - the thumbnail picture illustrates this. They show the jib raised and lowered. The first and last of the drawings list the lifting capabilities of that crane. The last drawing has a narrow horizontal blank strip across the middle, perhaps where the original has been folded, but no vital detail is obscured.
Only the last one is marked with a date, 16 March 1942. The other four must be after 1938, when the LNER renumbered its cranes in that series, so are probably from the 1940s as well.
