NEW MAY 2025. In September 1954 British Railways published what it called its 'Report of Committee of Investigation into the design and equipment of modern marshalling yards'. That is what you get here.

It consists of 28 foolscap pages (about the same width as modern A4 but taller) of duplicated typescript. There are no illustrations, but it does include several tables of data plus a large fold-out page showing the gradients of existing and planned hump yards - including Whitemoor and Temple Mills. The tables give figures about existing yards, again including Whitemoor: their capacities for handling wagons, and the percentage of time they spent on various activities.

The Committere cosidered alternative means for retarding wagons used in countries overseas.  Either publication was rushed or they left that too late, however, because in some cases they were still awaiting a response from the railways concerned!
