TO069: Maximum dimensions for loads, BR 1951.
NEW MARCH 2024. This is a 84-page card-covered book produced by British Railways in January 1961 with the title 'Dimensions of loads'. It added that it comprised "a table (and diagrams) shewing maximum dimensions of loads, etc., which will travel safely without restriction over lines shown herein". In other words, it provioded details of the parts of the system which had a restricted loading gauge.
The first part of the book deals with any special restrictions up to a height of 3' 6" above rail level. The main part of the book covers limits from 3' 6" upwards, listed region by region. The final section has scale drawings of the loading gauges described earlier.
This copy of the book is possessed by the Brewster Centre @ the Colne Valley Railway, and our thanks go to them for willingly agreeing we might offer it in our Files Emporium, and to our member Nick Ellis who made it possible.
The file is searchable and has bookmarks to each of the sections. It will be ready to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.?
