LM068: The Story of the North British Locomotive Co Ltd, 1953.
NEW JANUARY 2023. The North British Locomotive Company Limited was formed in Glasgow in 1903 by the amalgamation of three well established locomotive builders - Sharp Stewart, Neilson Reid and Dubs and Co.
In 1953 the North British Company celebrated its fiftieth anniversary by issuing presentation copies of this book. It is a quality production, of a large format and made from good glossy paper. Its 120 pages include chapters about each of the constituent companies, then proceed with a survey of the last fifty years and a look forward to the future. There are plenty of photographs, some in colour.
The GER had purchased locomotives from both Sharp Stewart (the 'little Sharpies') and Dubs and Co., but those particular ones do not feature in the book. The WDs and B1s of course also served our area, and they are duly mentioned.
