NEW AUGUST 2020. This relates to the LNER line between Ely and Peterborough. File RH079, a scan of magazines from the 1840's, credits the original engineer of that line with an innovation: a bow-string design of bridge made from wrought iron. The very first one was over the River Ouse, and a drawing of it is given there.

Eighty years later those bridges were in need of replacement, and this file takes up the story. It focuses on bridges No. 1813 and 1814 which took the line over the Welney Washes between Black Bank and Manea station, in the process crossing the New Bedford River, the Old Bedford River and the River Delph.

The article comes from the Railway Engineer for July 1929. Its eight pages contain eight large photographs. In addition there are several scale drawings, including some on a very big fold-out sheet which is larger than A2 in size.
