RH082: The Norfolk Railway Society 1955-1995.
NEW JUNE 2020. The Norfolk Railway Society was formed in 1955. It issued a monthly Newsletter. To mark its 40th anniversary in 1995 it produced a 76-page booklet giving extracts from those Newletters throughout all that period. That is what this file contains. We thank them for their kind permission that we might scan and offer it, which was readily granted.
The booklet is entirely text, with no illustrations apart from a drawing on the cover. The topics, arranged chronologically by the date of the Newsletter they came from, range widely. Thus the first two pages contain reports of a DMU journey on the Aldeburgh branch, and a trip around the Fens and West Norfolk starting from Norwich City station. There are meeting reports of talks by distinguished speakers, such as C Hamilton Ellis on the G.E.R. and Dick Hardy on Ipswich Loco as he knew it in 1950-52. Steam was replaced by diesel; branch line closures were reported, and so too was the demise of Lowestoft Sleeper Depot. Near the end is an account of Norwich Thorpe Engine Shed and Works by Dr R S Joby.
The file is word-searchable. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
