MN023 GER Executive Committee 1867-1868
NEW FEBRUARY 2016. This is a summary of the minute book RAIL 227/162, which contained a record of all the meetings of the GER Executive Committee. These extended from October 1867 to January 1868.
The Executive Committee was a one-off emergency measure. At the end of 1867 the Company was declared in chancery and its Board was in disarray, awaiting the election of a new set of Directors in January 1868. In the meantime the remaining Directors decided to suspend meetings of all the separate committees and instead have this single 'Committee of Everything'. it took over some Board functions (sealing of documents appears more than once), but other meetings dealt with the sort of business that would have been appropriate to the Traffic Committee in normal times, for instance.
