NEW APRIL 2023. This is a follow-on from our much-acclaimed Locomotive Magazine 1896 to 1923. Part 2 runs from January 1924 to December 1953 – thirty volumes, 360 issues and about 10,000 pages. The new scanning company we used has produced equally good but more compact files, so they all fit on one DVD. The quantity of information provided here is nevertheless comparable to that in Part 1.

The layout is similar to the previous part except that the magazines are this time arranged as thirty annual files, rather than as separate issues. Bonus files include the story of the Locomotive Magazine (as was also featured in Part 1) plus the substantial supplement issued by the Locomotive Magazine in 1925 to mark the centenary of railways, together with the very different equivalent production by the LNER. (That last pair have already been issued by us as Files RH090 and RH089 respectively.)

The official indexes for all the volumes are included. We have also compiled a 50-page list of the main contents of every issue, to help with browsing – you can see this HERE. In addition we provide an index to the topics covered in readers’ letters, to remedy a shortfall in some of the official indexes. We have also organised a facility to carry out a speedy single word-search of all 360 copies of the Locomotive Magazine plus the bonus files.

We very much regret that this DVD can be posted only to UK addresses owing to difficulties we have experienced with customs duties. It is hoped that a Part 3 will be issued eventually (perhaps during 2024). This will cover all the remaining issues of the Locomotive Magazine that appeared as a separate title, which was up to November 1959.
