Morning all,
Today I am sharing with you my latest model in my collection. The loco in question is a BEC J17 found on E-Bay last week. I brought it for my grandfather who remembers these locomotives when they were in service. The kit came in a Matt finish with a BR number and early crest, however we both decided it would look better in Great Eastern condition so i set about backdating it. As GE goods black is a simple livery, i attempted the conversion myself, so while it wont be as high quality as the Y14 i had professionally redone, I think it will still be ok.
I ordered transfers from fox, and then stripped the model as soon as it arrived. it then got spayed with black primer. I then picked out the boiler, cab sides and tender tank in gloss black, and the various brass pieces in a metallic paint. I then applied the number and the tender decals. Note, the etched cab plate currently shows the wrong number, being a spare from an old McGowan B12 kit. I will order some etched plates from Narrow Planet however these take 2 months to produce. The only other detail i need to change are the safety valves, the Great eastern locos having a cover like my Y14. This part is on order.
The last things i intend to do are replace the smokebox door, fit new handrails, glazing, cab detail and some finer crushed coal. but for now I'm happy to show this loco.
Regards,
Brad.
