Food:
There are kitchen facilities available for us on site to make hot drinks and possibly to warm pies etc. The College is some distance from the town centre, and there are no shops immediately adjacent, but there are several “fast food” restaurants/drive-throughs within easy driving distance or walking via an underpass. If in doubt, bring lunch!
Sales Tables:
Any member who wishes to use a sales table please contact Brian Watson on 07939 567838 or ( secretary@GERSsociety.org.uk ) in advance. There is a small charge for members selling items for their own profit.
Getting There
Firstly, if you can offer a lift to the venue, or would appreciate one, please contact Brian Watson on 07939 567838, or send an email to secretary@gersociety.org.uk , and we shall help if we can.
By Rail (LATEST NEWS)
See also By Bus below for shuttle bus details.
Ely is well served by trains running north up the King’s Lynn line from London via Kings Cross (or slower via the Liverpool Street line), or east-west from Norfolk, Suffolk and North Essex to the east and Peterborough via March to the west. HOWEVER, further strike action is probable for 1st October so please arrive by road if possible and if you need a lift contact Brian Watson who will do his best!
By Bus
As there is no scheduled bus service that passes the College entrance on a Saturday, we were to arrange a shuttle bus to pick up attendees from the railway station and the town centre and return to those places at the end of the meeting. Without trains, there seems little point to that so please liaise with Brian Watson for the latest news. If the trains run, we SHALL provide connecting buses.
If you need help with transport arrangements, please contact Brian Watson well in advance on 07939 567838, or by email to secretary@gersociety.org.uk , or (last resort!) by letter to 6, Windmill Walk, Sutton, ELY, Cambs CB6 2NH.
By Road
The A10 bypasses Ely. Coming north, the College is on Downham Road off the A10 a little further north than a highly-visible BP garage on your left. As you see a cinema and several fast food establishments to your left, turn right at that roundabout onto the A1411/Downham Road. The College entrance we use will be clearly signed on the left. There is plenty of car parking at the site.
If you can assist with car-sharing please make offers to Brian or the e-group.
