NEW OCTOBER 2018. A new overnight express freight service for full wagon loads was due to begin running on 7th November 1955.  It linked East Anglia with the South-West and Wales. The train started in Ipswich at 7.10 pm, took on more wagons at Cambridge, called at Yarnton near Oxford where presumbly it dropped some of its wagons off, then continued to Cardiff.

This file consists of a covering letter plus a 16-page foolscap typescript document issued by the Eastern Region Chief Commercial Manager a month in advance for the information of his staff.

The first section comprises three pages listing local goods trains which might be used as feeders for the new service. The departure point and time plus the arrival point and time are provided, and each one is given a number from 1 to 98 for use in the next section.

Six pages follow which are a list of all the goods yards and sidings in our region, arranged alphabetically from Abbey & West Dereham to Yeldham. Every one has a departure time and the reference numbers of the connecting trains to be used - sometimes just one, and sometimes a sequence of them.

The document concludes with an alphabetical list of all the goods yards which a wagon on this train might be destined for (Cheddar, Llangyfelach, Penzance, Swansea Prince of Wales Dock and so on).

The file is provided with bookmarks to take you to each of the main sections. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
