NEW MARCH 2017. This was a booklet produced by the LNER in 1934 which covered the Southern Area. Lorries based at the larger stations would collect goods from and deliver them to the villages around, and the purpose of the booklet was to advertise this.
There is a list of stations at which lorries were based (indicating which ones of them were connected to the public telephone service!). This is followed by the scale of charges for this service, based on weight and distance from the railhead. Then comes a list of all the other towns and villages in the area, saying which station served them. Details of other services involving road motor transport follow, including house and farm removals and door-to-door transport by road-rail containers.
The booklet contains 27 pages (displayed here as two-page spreads) plus sixteen half-page photographs.
Finally comes a 20-page supplement dated October 1935 which gives alterations and additions to the original booklet.
The whole file is word-searchable. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
