NEW AUGUST 2016. A set of 35 coloured snapshots recording the railway buildings at Southminster from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. What each picture may lack in sharpness is made up for by its rarity and interest.

The file starts with a page of introduction, followed by a single-page map of the station and its approaches to illustrate the locations of the photographs. Then come 18 pages, mostly containing two of the photos as shown by the thumbnail.

The pictures are arranged in sections: platform views before electrification; platform views after electrification; the station viewed from the approach road; various lineside features (including the buffer stops, signal box, some of the signals and the nuclear flask train); the goods shed; and a single view of an example of a railway cottage.

All these photos were taken as part of a survey of the buildings by our one-time member, the late Norman Toogood. His son generously donated them to the Society. He also used the results of his father's survey to produce scale drawings of the station, a pair of railway cottages and the Station Hotel, and he was keen to make these available as well to anyone interested. We have already done that by issuing D35.CD. That CD has all the drawings, plus the photos that appear in this file and a further 36 shots illustrating the hotel.
