NEW OCTOBER 2015. One of our members, Peter Willis, wrote down the numbers of the engines he spotted when visiting Cambridge station. This is more than just a list of numbers, though. He has recorded which train the locomotive was working on a given day, and has noted its home depot. Moreover the dates run from 1957 to 1960: at the start, all was steam; by the end diesels and DMUs had started to make their mark (and the numbers of the diesel engines and of many of the DMUs have been put down too). Thus patterns of working show up during a time of transition.
Ruth Ivimey-Cook scanned the original manuscripts and added a table of contents at the start. All routes to Cambridge feature - from Mildenhall, St Ives, Kettering, Hunstanton and Kings Lynn, Wisbech, Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Bletchley, Kings Cross, etc. The whole document has been made word-searchable, and Peter's handwriting at the time was sufficiently clear to make it possible to search for individual locomotive numbers with at least a measure of success!
