For enthusiasts, researchers and modellers of the Great Eastern Railway

RH080: Railway Pride and Prejudice, Halstead 1946.

NEW JUNE 2020. In 1946 Thomas B Peacock wrote his classic booklet on the never-to-be-built Mistley, Thorpe and Walton Railway and published it himself. We have it available as File RH055.

At the back of that booklet he advertised another of his publications, entitled 'Railway Pride and Prejudice', which he described as an attempt to answer, from the psychological point of view, the quesion "Why are you fond of railways?" and a discussion on some aspects of the fascination which railways exert. There were a limited number of copies available, he said.

That publication is extremely rare nowadays, and almost never appears as a second-hand item. In case you ever wondered about it, this is your chance because a copy has finally been acquired and is offered here. It is a modest 12-page booklet, published in Halstead in 1946.

It is quite well produced, with four photographs - a typical GER signal, its equivalent LNER successor and a pair of GWR signals from similar periods. The author's description of its contents sums it up well. As might be expected he shows familiarity with the GER, mentioning Claud Hamilton locomotives and James Holden.
