RC033 Unification of British Railways 1951
NEW MARCH 2016. This is derived from a 64-page card-covered booklet entitled 'Unification of British Railways: Administrative Principles and Practice' by Members of the Railway Executive, with a Foreword by its Chairman. It was published in 1951 by the now-defunct periodical called Modern Transport.
It aimed to provide a thorough review of the challenges of transforming the separate Big Four railway companies into a single entity, and to outline the intended ways forward. The six main sections, each written by a different member of the Executive, were Operational Organisation; Mechanical and Electrical Engineering; Permanent Way and Signalling; the Stores department; a Review of Commercial Principles; and Looking after 625,000 Employees. In addition to being of general interest, this work may well prove useful to students and researchers of that period - it delivers detailed contemporary assessments by authoratative writers.
The file is word-searchable and includes bookmarks to the main sections. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.Y
