RR069: LTE Additions and Exceptions to the B.R. Rule Book, 1956.
NEW JULY 2021. This 48-page London Transport Executive booklet describes additions and exceptions to the British Railways rule book, applicable at British Railways stations and signal boxes on lines where London Transport Executive rules apply. We thank Bill King for supplying the scans from an item in his possession.
It was published in 1956 and is just 5½” x 4¼” in size, but this means it comfortably fits within the BR rule book for 1950, as amended, with which it must be read. That file is available from the Files Emporium as file RR039.
Although some will wonder why this little document might be of interest to BR-era GE-area enthusiasts, it includes rule 81(q) which is specifically applicable at Stratford station, and Queens Park. At Stratford, the Central Line bursts briefly to the surface at what are currently platforms 3 and 6 and then buries itself again for its journeys to and from rural Essex. Nevertheless, special rules were applied on the Underground lines at the BR station, in this case concerning station-to-station working in the event of failure of one or more automatic stop signals.
It should, therefore, be of interest to those with a special interest in signalling in the GE area and provides a link to the numerous other London Transport documents available from the Files Emporium. To find them all, just put ‘London Transport’ into the search box.
The file is word-searchable and is displayed as a series of two-page spreads. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
