TP028 BR Continental Timetables via Harwich and Tilbury Summer 1959
NEW MAY 2020. This consists of 114 pages from the BR Continental Timetables dated 31 May to 3 October 1959. All pages are there which are relevant for sailings from Parkeston Quay to the Hook of Holland, Zeebrugge and Esbjerg, and from Tilbury to Antwerp and Gothenburg. Pages which relate solely to the south coast ports, to Hull and to Newcastle have been omitted. The map at the back was not present in the available copy.
Connecting trains are listed over a wide part of Europe, ranging from Switzerland and Italy to Bucharest, Norway and Finland. Information is provided about the passports and visas each country required. The standard conditions of carriage are given in detail plus around 30 pages of general information - dealing with customs, radio telephones, the price of couchettes and how to book them, currency restrictions, the transport of dogs, cats and parrots and much more.
Unlike the domestic timetables, this one includes photographs. They depict such features as the ships used on the crossings and the sleeping accommodation to expect on the trains. One shows 70001 Lord Hurcomb on the Day Continental.
All the ships used by British Railways and by their Continental partners, both passenger and freight, are listed with their horsepower, tonnage, speed and dimensions.
