REP.CD Directors' Reports to Shareholders 1837 to 1948
What you purchase here is a CD containing the Directors' Reports to the Shareholders of the ECR, the GER and the LNER. The dates covered range from 1837 to 1948. You may also purchase the files on it as a download - to do that, go HERE.
The directors of a railway company were obliged to provide their shareholders with these regular reports. They normally did this in advance of each of their meetings with them, initially every six months but later annually. They describe the state of the railway at that time, and outline and explain the directors' plans for the immediate future. There are full statistics relating to expenditure and income, and to things such as a detailed breakdown of rolling stock possessed - locomotives, tenders, all sorts of passenger vehicles and freight wagons. The mileage of track owned or worked by the company is tabulated, and so too are the mileages run by passenger and freight trains. The names and addresses of each of the directors are listed.
The reports should prove invaluable to researchers and historians, and include much of general interest. They all come from our own Collection. There are a few gaps, which have been covered on the CD by supplying contemporary newspaper reports of those meetings - the only other copies of the reports themselves we could track down were those held in the National Archives, and of course they cannot be borrowed for scanning. Thus this CD makes a rare resource readily accessible.
The scanning of the reports and the production of the CD were both carried out professionally. You will get well over 3600 pages of reports, word-searchable and with our usual rapid search facility. One additional guidance file concerning help with the search facility is very recent and is not on the CD: you may download that HERE.
If you place an order for this item, the CD will be posted to you. A charge to cover postage and packing is added at the checkout before you commit yourself to buy.
NOTE:-
1. This is a data CD not an audio one. It will not play on an ordinary domestic CD player.
2. If you prefer to download the files directly, go HERE.
We very much regret that this CD can be posted only to UK addresses owing to difficulties we have experienced with customs duties. Overseas customers are of course still more than welcome to purchase the download version – you will receive the same files without incurring the inevitable considerable delay. If you have serious misgivings as to whether your local internet will be up to the task, please feel free to consult us at sales@gersociety.org.uk.
