LM028 Locomotives of the ECR
NEW OCTOBER 2015. This is a major new publication. The information in it is the result of extensive scholarly work by Peter King (our member No. 1133). In the process he consulted a wide range of primary sources at the National Archives in Kew and at other locations.
The Locomotive Magazine published a series of detailed articles on the topic between 1901 and 1913, with a follow-up series in 1937-1939. These we have already issued as reprints, both in the Files Emporium and as Information Sheets. Peter considers his work to be a supplement to these – adding to what they contain, clarifying some of the points in them and correcting a few of their errors. The files in question are LM001, LM002 and LM006; the Information Sheets are L104, L105 and L110.
His work, which covers more than 50 pages, thus provides an important addition to our knowledge about the locomotive stock acquired by or built for the ECR. For this we express our grateful thanks. In addition the intricrasies of the dealings of the ECR with other railways in the area - the Norfolk Railway, the EUR and the Newmarket Railway for example - are lucidly summarised.
Peter would be delighted to discuss the subject with others who are interested in the topic, and invites people to get in touch with him directly. His contact details can be found in the Society’s Membership List; or you can ask for them via Sales.
