L&R.DL: 'Locomotives and Railways' Volumes 1 to 4, 1900-1903.
NEW OCTOBER 2023. Locomotives and Railways was published in Manchester. It based itself on the Locomotive Magazine, which it saw as its main rival.
A monthly publication, the first issue appeared in January 1900. It lasted for 42 editions, finally succumbing to financial pressures after the issue for June 1903.
Please note that these files are also included as a bonus in Part 3 of the Locomotive Magazine (LR3.DL), so if you get that you do not need to buy this one - we are making it available here for anyone who only wishes for Locomotives and Railways.
Like its competitor it frequently provided what it called a supplement - an extra page in that issue, not included in the page numbering sequence, typically containing a full-page illustration. It appeared to be working to a tight budget and managed only one colour supplement - but that was of the new Claud Hamilton locomotive.
To see what else there is, a list of their main contents is provided HERE for you to consult. In total there are around 600 pages.
Bonus files include some sample covers with adverts, an account of what we have discovered about the magazine, and a small book of photographs which was the only separate supplement it manged to produce, as far as we know.
If you buy this you will receive a link to download a zipped folder. That download is just over 200 MB, which will take a while to complete. When unzipped you can access all the files. Indexes are there for the first three volumes, and all four are provided with a list of their main contents.
The files have been scanned professionally. They are word-searchable and have bookmarks to the separate months. The link for them will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
