For enthusiasts and researchers of the Great Eastern Railway

The new GERS Files Emporium

Welcome to the GERS Files Emporium. Here you can order and pay for selected items in the form of PDF files and in most cases download them directly. The Emporium stocks most of the items from the traditional GERS Sales List, save for the large drawings, plus a few extra items. Our expanding collection of 'off-the-shelf' software CDs and DVDs can also be ordered here for postal delivery. Payment is via PayPal, but if you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay by credit or debit card via PayPal. To open PDF files, you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't already have it installed, you can download it from here.

For detailed instructions on browsing and searching the Files Emporium, click here.

downloadNearly all our files have this logo with their product details. It means that as soon as the payment through Paypal is completed you will be able to download them. When Paypal returns you to the GERS site, you will see a link to your Order Details, at the bottom of which you will see link(s) to the files you have ordered next to a green download button. Click each button or link to download. When you buy via the Files Emporium, you will receive several e-mails. You will receive a Purchase Order confirmation, listing your details and what you have bought; and a payment acknowledgement e-mail sent by Paypal. If you have purchased downloadable files, you will also receive an e-mail with the title "Download-Info" (see example). This provides details on how to download your files if you didn't do that at the time of order. If you do not receive these 2 or 3 e-mails, check in your spam folder. You can download each file 3 times within 5 days of ordering by clicking on the links provided in the Download-Info e-mail or by inserting the Download-ID code into the field in the Download Area (accessed just below the Search Box). Alternatively, if you are a GERS member and have a website account, you can log-in and go to Account Maintenance at the bottom left of the Files Emporium page.  There you will see a list of orders you have made and if you click "View" to the right of the yellow arrow, it will bring up the order details with the download button.

There is no charge for delivery by this means: the price given for the file is what you pay.

24hR

This logo, on the other hand, means you must wait for us to serve you (the 24 hours response time is the aim, but cannot always be guaranteed). There are a host of reasons why this might be the case, for example:-

  • The Journals and News are for members only, so we need to be able to control their sales;
  • The files of the annual volumes of the GER and LNER Magazines are too big to store on our web site;
  • A few items are folders rather than single files (e.g. the original pencil minutes transcriptions), and these need special treatment to be able to download them.

For such items, delivery via an Internet file delivery system (Yousendit.com or similar) is the usual method, for which we make a small charge of 20p to help to offset the administrative costs we incur in the transaction. As an alternative, at extra cost, you may opt to have them recorded onto a CD which is posted to you.

With Yousendit.com, you receive an e-mail with a link, which when clicked, allows you to download the file. If you have ordered several items, it may be necessary to send them separately or they may be 'zipped' together into a single file. For advice about 'unzipping' files to their constituent parts, see here.

The same logo is also shown against the 'off-the-shelf' software discs. These also appear in the traditional Sales List and are identified in the Files Emporium by the suffix .CD or .DVD in their order code. The only way to supply these is to post them to you.

Mixed Orders

It is possible to order downloadable items and posted items in the same order, but you will only see links for the downloadable items.
