Great Eastern Journal & News

GERS JournalGERS News

Membership of the Great Eastern Railway Society brings with it many benefits, including a subscription to the Great Eastern Journal and Great Eastern News, both published quarterly.

The Great Eastern Journal is a professionally-produced typeset production, rivalling the commercial magazines in quality and published on the first day of January, April, July and October. It contains articles, photographs, plans and drawings dealing with the history of the Great Eastern Railway and associated railways. Each issue currently contains in the region of 48 pages. Running now to almost 170 issues, it represents a substantial resource for those wishing to research the GER. A list of the contents of all the Journals produced can be downloaded by clicking: pdfContents_of_Journals

The Great Eastern News provides information about the Society, including local meetings, contemporary railway activities in the Great Eastern area, a resumé of postings to the Society's e-group, as well as reviews of books, videos, models and Great Eastern topics in other publications.

Members have the opportunity of purchasing back numbers of the magazines, either as original magazines, where available; as word-processed documents; or as digitised documents on CD-ROM. The latter have the great advantage that, with one exception, the CDs are searchable, making the finding of a particular subject that much easier.

We are approached from time-to-time by non-members seeking information about a subject which has been covered in the Journal. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, copies of the Great Eastern Journal and Great Eastern News are not available to non-members. One method to access this information, of course, is to join the Society. We welcome all prospective members and details of membership are available here.

For those not wishing to join the Society, you may consult copies of the Great Eastern Journal through a number of libraries and other public institutions. Unfortunately, many are no longer members of the Society, so their holdings will not be up to date - these are marked with an asterisk.
